Rated 5 out of 5 by from Workhorse Just installed last week. This thing provides a ton of heat output. One night it started making an intermittent humming resonance type noise that was a little annoying. It may be related to elevation and air intake - contractor coming back to take a look.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product !!! I bought this Unit after my other tank-less died on me in less the 3 years. The installation parts was pretty easy even though everything was there already from my existing unit but the setup was easy as well. If you are looking for a good quality product & high efficiency unit invest your money in this product also look into a good contractor that knows how to install the product as well which is KEY. I hope this Review makes it easier for any consumer that is considering a system like this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As advertised Made the change to tankless as part of a total basement rennovation. 2 adults in our household and the H2O heater is able to keep up with 2 showers running. Hums a bit when it "kicks in" but not as loud as the HVAC air handler. We are happy with the product thus far, ours runs on propane. It was definetly a space saver compared to our previous conventional H2O heater.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great new upgrade I wanted to upgrade to a tankless water heater to improve proficiency and make space in my utility room. Success on both. I've had the unit for a month now and I am truly pleased with its performance. It takes a bit to get used to the operational difference between a tank and a tankless.. i.e. If you want warm water, you first crank up the hot till you feel hot water, then back it down and add cold till you reach a comfortable temperature. It's like second nature after a week. The unit itself is compact and frees up a lot of space. The "on demand" part is probably the best feature.. (looking forward to my first post electric-tank power bill).. it only uses fuel while you're pulling hot water. The cost to purchase and install was a good bit higher than you'd pay for a traditional tank set up, but the money you'll save in the long run makes it well worth it. Shop around for a good plumber.. Most, you'd think, are looking to retire off of your install, but there are some honest tradesmen out there. Look for the owner/operator types with no employees to pay. Bottom line.. Go git you one and enjoy the savings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Out of sight out of mind I bought this water heater with the purchase of a new home. It has been one of the best investments I have ever made. It works well and never needs attention. I always have hot water. I would strongly recommend this to anyone considering a tankless water heater. The only con is that the water pressure drop significantly when more than one hot water tap/shower is on. Two can shower comfortability.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great and saves space Excellent operation and consistent water temperature. Only reason it is not a rating of 5 is the noise level. My installation is in an older home where combustion air is through a louvered door rather than a sealed utility closet. Should be better in a modern sealed utility closet.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Simple, Functional hot water Our old tank water heater suddenly stopped within its warranty, so we opted to change to a tankless system because we've had two tanks fail in 5 years. The plumber we called to do the service recommended this heater to us and installed it at a very reasonable price. Unfortunately, this model does not come with a recirculation pump so it takes a little while to heat the water up and deliver it to your faucet. Otherwise, it works well enough and delivers hot water endlessly. Time will tell if this was a wise switch and if it lasts longer than our tank(s).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Endless hot water but some learning curves Quick summary: Install was quick, endless hot water, takes up less space, hopefully more efficient than my 27+ year old electric tank water heater (haven't owned tankless long enough to see what future bills will be yet), noisier when in use than a traditional electric tank water heater (but not annoying and no louder than my air handler), hot water arrives quick at higher flow taps (bath/shower) but takes a little longer than before at lower flow taps that are farther away (sinks), recommend two handle faucets to minimize unintentional activations of the water heater, recommend thermostatic valves for showers/tubs. Long summary: We decided it was time to replace our 27+ year old 50 gallon tank electric water heater before it kicked the bucket. During our research, we decided to go with a more efficient, tankless propane water heater to: help free up room in the house, to hopefully lower our energy bill, and to have endless hot water that can keep up with the demand. Our installer initially recommended the 340-PIH, but we chose to upgrade to the 540-PIH since we are planning home improvements that may increase our demand for hot water. It also has a better flow rate when the temp delta of the water increases and has lower pressure loss as demand goes up (which being on a well, I find useful). Installation went real quick, everything was done in a single day, and it takes up far less room than our old tank water heater (which shares a room with our air handler, washer, dryer, and well pressure tank). It's appearance is very clean and using it is straight forward. Adjusting temperature and viewing current inlet water temp and flow rate is pretty easy. I was a little surprised that it was noisier than I was expecting when it is running. Of course, since an electric tank water heater is pretty much silent, I was expecting the tankless to be making some noise due to the blower, igniter, and other components. Its loudness and tone varies depending on the load but it isn't too loud nor annoying. I'd say it is no louder than my home's air handler it sits next to. Not necessarily a negative, just something to be aware of. Our water heater is central in the house with most plumbing being very close by. As such, getting hot water to most fixtures is pretty quick. Both of our bath tubs receive hot water within 30 seconds, not much difference than when we had a tank water heater. Our kitchen sink and one of our bathroom sinks have the longest runs and those can take what feels to be significantly longer but have no issues supplying hot water once it reaches the tap. But this is where the learning curve and some adjustments are necessary. With the runs to the kitchen sink and far bathroom being so long, someone may turn on the hot water briefly, which will fire up the water heater, but not leave it on long enough to actually receive hot water. This is a bit wasteful since the water heater is then putting in work for something that isn't being used. Some of this can be alleviated through "relearning" how to use the faucets more efficiently, the other has to do with how the current house plumbing and fixtures are setup. The faucets in question are a single handle faucet instead of a two handle faucet. As such, it is very easy to activate the water heater when you don't intend to. To help reduce these unintentional hot water requests, you have to mindfully remember to always keep the faucet handle turned all the way to cold before turning it on. We do plan to replace these single handle faucets in the bathroom with two handle faucets, which should help reduce wasteful activations. With our kitchen sink, which is a single handle, going to a two handle setup isn't much of an option. For those that must have quick, on demand hot water at the sinks in the farther reaches of the house, you may want to look at having your tankless setup with a recirculation loop or have a small POU (point of use) tankless water heater installed under the sink to help boost the hot water. For me, I am not quite there yet in needing to do this. I do plan to start by making sure as much of my hot water pipes are well insulated to minimize any heat loss (having a crawl space makes this easy to do). The other challenge to keep in mind with older plumbing is when running water (primarily hot) at multiple locations simultaneously, primarily if one or more of those locations is high flower like a tub/shower. When this happens, the water flow from the hot and cold sides will change and your nice, hot shower may swing in temp that can become uncomfortable. You may start to think the tankless isn't able to keep up with demand when in fact its just the balance of hot/cold has changed. So you are then fighting with trying to get the right temp again by fiddling with the shower valve as the water flow on the hot and cold sides is changing. This is where a thermostatic shower valve at your tub/shower can come in handy and may be a good investment to get the best results from your tankless water heater. A thermostatic shower valve helps maintain a set water temp even if the balance of cold/hot water flow changes. Lastly, an observation that will not effect majority of homeowners out there. If you need to get a precise, room temp water (76-78 degrees) at a single handle sink and need to run that for an extended duration, then you may need to run some hot water at another faucet as well or temporarily lower the set temp at the water heater. If you don't, then the flow rate demand for hot water may drop to a point where it is too low for the water heater to stay running. By having another faucet running hot water, even at just a low flow rate, it will be just enough to keep the hot water flowing and the water heater will stay on. From a two handle sink or a tub, this may not be an issue. Temporarily lowering the set temp at the water heater may work just as well since it will allow you to keep the hot water flow rate high enough to keep the water heater running while not making your hot/cold water mix too hot. The only reason I experienced this is I have an aquarium that I maintain and have to do water changes regularly. When changing out the water, the new incoming water needs to be as close as possible to the temperature of the aquarium (76 degrees). This temperature is only 10-15 degrees warmer than my incoming cold water during the warm season, thus not a lot of hot water is needed to mix with the cold water to raise it up to the required temp, probably barely meeting the minimum flow requirement to keep the water heater on.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice unit, but mine had a defect The unit is very compact and seems to be adequate for our house with six people. It runs quietly and kicks on and off reliably as needed. We got our first unit in August 2014 and a couple of months ago it started dripping water. I had the installation guys come look at it and it turns out the heat exchanger was shot after only 4 years. It was still covered under warranty, but like the engine blowing in a new car, State decided to provide a new unit, probably due to labor costs of installing a new heat exchanger, which is very involved. Now we have the replacement unit, (same exact model) so hopefully this one lasts. If it weren't for the warranty, the rating might be a lot lower.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from only one concern Product works great, only concern I have is that when I originally bought my first heater I wasn't informed that this heater has to be flushed out minimum of once a year in locations that have hard water. I also wasn't given the option to purchase the flushing kit that the plumping supply company had in stock. After three years I started getting partials stuck in my faucets. When I went on line I found out that I should have been flushing the system all along. I do believe that for the amount you pay for the heater the kit to flush the system should be included.

Draw back the installer found was the plastic 3 in coupling that came with unit would not fit into intake and outlet flanges. Couplings had to be field modified and vaseline used to install them properly. Some ratings are premature .

Rated 4 out of 5 by from efficient and fast Bought for my house and really love it. Every once in a while the water fluctuates in the beginning but after its just one beautiful constant flow of endless hot water. It heats up FAIRLY quickly considering its tankless. Temp settings for hot water is very easy to use. With a push of a button you can decrease the heat further for more efficiency, depending on the situation.
