      • The FVIR-compliant ProLine® XE Direct Vent 50-Gallon Gas Water Heater draws air from outside the home, eliminating problems caused by insufficient indoor ventilation. The GS6-50-YBDS can be vented up to 80 inches from the outside wall with no electrical power needed.

      This ProLine® Direct Vent model has a 50-gallon (nominal) tank and a 40,000 BTU gas burner to deliver a first hour rating of 77 gallons and a recovery rate of 43 gallons per hour.

      A patented Green Choice® eco-friendly burner design reduces NOx emissions up to 33% and complies with Low NOx emission requirements of 40 ng/J. Environmentally-friendly insulation and factory-installed heat trap nipples reduce heat loss for maximum energy savings.

      The GS6-50-YBDS ProLine® water heater features State’s advanced tank protection, including a stainless steel CoreGard™ anode rod, Blue Diamond® glass lining, and DynaClean™ automatic sediment-cleaning—designed to help protect the tank from the corrosive effects of water and extend the life of the water heater, which is backed by a 6-year limited tank and parts warranty.

If this one last just as long, which is the same make and comparable model, I would consider this a smart purchase. A little pricey but hopefully well worth it.

    Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good water heater/poor installation experience I had previously purchased a State gas water heater through Dominon (then PSNC) and had it installed by their contractor. Great install and water heater lasted 12 years. Did same thing this time around and now wished I hadn't. Install crew very unprofessional, sloppy install job and they damaged the mixing valve in my master bath when they purged water line of air. Dominion will not respond to my calls - I guess that's what they call "customer service." Will not go this route again.

The fact that this one is so, so, so much bigger and very expensive - praying that it meets up to what the older one was like and lasts as long or longer. Have not had this one long enough to give it much of a good or bad review. Has features that were not on the older one that is awesome and makes sense.

Must say that the new vent kit is NOT an improvement over the old solid steel one...the flex pipe is thin, difficult to bend and position and questionable whether it will last the life of the unit.

    Rated 4 out of 5 by from New To Me I have recently moved into a condo and the existing hot water heater was at least 14 years old so I opted to replace it. This is kind of confusing for me but the only real issue is that this replacement is larger than the original and the door of the closet it was installed in will not close completely. It has nothing to do with installation, but everythig to do with improvements to the quality and insulation which has increased the circumference of the heater itself.

I like the push button piezo lighter, the low-NOx burner, the better anode, the diffuser dip tube that reduces sediment build-up, the microprocessor control and the self-powered electronic gas valve.

    Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hope the new is as good as the old one I just replaced my hot water heater with the same size and style (LP/direct/short) . The old one was 19-1/2 years old. I would given this 5 stars, but the hot return on top damaged in shipment. The stamped steel piece had separated at their seams, so I straighten the best could and the remaining RTV to any possible gaps.

    Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good unit with significant design flaw I have had good service from this unit, but after 1 year, I flushed some water from the tank as part of a maintenance schedule. I realized that the drain valve had an absurdly small orifice, which does not allow much sediment to be evacuated. I replaced mine with a ball valve, and have seen much more sediment come out. I think the original valve was a terrible choice, and will likely limit the life of the tank.
