Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice water heater - until it dies I'm a big fan of heat pumps tech and green building. However, this water heater only worked well for 26 months. Then the compressor died - emitting an ECO code. Still worked as an electric water heater. My plumber replaced the tank under warranty but I had to pay the $400+ installation fee. That negated any energy savings I got from this tank.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Died after almost 2 years Worked very well in heat pump mode for almost 2 years. Then it would run and run. Electric mode worked but would jump back into hybrid mode on its own after a day or 2. State was very good at replacing the complete heater under warranty, but I had to pay $1100 for labor to get it replaced, There goes my savings compared to buying a straight electric model. Now this new heat pump water heater needs to work flawlessly for 7 more years for me to break even compared to just buying an electric model.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Buyer beware I’m sharing my experience in hopes that it will help someone else. I had a State Water Heater installed last winter. It worked great for a few months and then stopped working in the hybrid mode. Our contractor went through troubleshooting with State and determined we needed a replacement. Replacement was complete and a few months later SAME THING HAPPENED. We decided we didn’t want to go through that again, so we would do a warranty claim and go with a different company. The warranty department said they would reimburse around $1600. They gave a form to fill out. Weeks later I was informed that I need the original data plate off of the broken water heater. It was disposed of at that point. I called several times looking for a solution. They offered nothing - just kept repeating that they couldn’t do anything without the original data plate.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Buy literally ANYTHING else We had 2 installed as part of a transition to geothermal HVAC, 1 50gal, 1 80gal. 80gal threw a code within months, luckily soon enough that the company paid for the fix. But there is only 1 certified tech in the state and it required 2 trips, so there were long waits and I lost work time for each. Company sent the wrong part but luckily I caught that before second trip. 50gal died just after 1 year mark. Company replaced but I had to pay plumbers $600 for the work. 80gal compressor has now failed at the 2 year mark. I will have to fix or replace that now too. Energy savings will never cover all these plumber costs. Trash product. Company should do the right thing and cover labor for replacements.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from not so good... initial tank installed threw an ECC error code right away. They had to reinstall a new tank. Now 13 months later, in Eco mode won't reach desired temp and we have to run it in hybrid mode which cost more money to run. I'm not very happy with their reliability. I would buy from a different manufacturer.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Run as fast as you can from this manufacturer We got it installed just a year ago. Then we got EVC error. Compressor failure. Two weeks passed I filled online form- silence. I calked than and they refused to provide any warranty at all claiming that I need to pay for the service provider visit, and only than they maybe will take a look on it( while I took picture if the problem). Obvious SCAM. I will raise AG complaint for the luck of warranty and false advertisement.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Garbage Appliance - Avoid this One at All Costs Absolute garbage water heater. Alarms go off all the time, doesn't create enough hot water, and is too complicated for service people to fix, so nobody will fix this and honor the warranty. Complete waste of money. If my house doesn't burn down because of this thing it will be a miracle. Do not buy this thing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from so disappointmented we’ve had our water heater since 2017. it has been a constant battle of arranging shower schedules, not operating the dishwasher or doing laundry (warm water) and nothing has helped or change our experience. there are only 3 adults in our home and we never have enough hot water! maybe royal river heat pumps made a mistake when they recommended the 50 gallon model. who knows?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DO NOT BUY We received a lemon. Customer service was horrible and not helpful. The hybrid component started having issues right after our one year warranty and completely broke 18 months in. The company is making us pay for both shipping of a new unit and to have it installed. Would not recommend this company to anyone.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst tank ever x 2 It was installed in our new home, upon yearly service anode rod would not come out of tank State said the certified State plumber could not force it or it damage would void the warranty so Anode rod could not be changed which was defective. We lived with less than hot water for another year when tank started to throw codes and the condenser valve began to leak inside the tank. State agreed to replace it. New tank gets installed it was a model higher grade because they no longer sold the one we had. Within 2 months the condensation valve began leaking into the tank, the TP valve began leaking and the tank started throwing codes. I spent a total of 2,000.00 for plumbers fees, restock fees, upgrade fees on 2 tanks and still do not have an operable tank. Not to mention the 40.00 a month in my increased electric bill because the hybrid needs to be changed to electric daily so my basement floor does not get a puddle every day. Called state to just get money back so we can buy a product that actually functions for more than a few months but they are only willing to pay for parts I will again be paying for a certified Plummer to fix the two issues and I still have no guarantee the tank will stop throwing codes. I’m extremely disappointed in this company. I’m currently waiting to speak to a manager, I have been hung up on and on hold for 30 additional minutes. I would not waste my time on this product. You will have bought 2-3 tanks with all the work needed and still won’t have an operable tank. Please do the right thing State and refund me the full cost so I can purchase a tank that works and my family can have a dry basement with hot water.
