      • The ProLine® XE 40-Gallon Atmospheric Vent Short Liquid Propane Water Heater uses an automatic flue damper and electronic gas control to deliver highly-optimized performance and greater efficiency. The flue damper automatically opens and closes to reduce heat loss in standby mode.

      The GS6-40-HBFT’s 40-gallon (nominal) tank and 36,000 BTU propane burner deliver a first hour rating of 70 gallons and a recovery rate of 42 gallons per hour. Intelligent control logic provides more precise temperature sensing and a faster heating response.

      A patented Green Choice® eco-friendly burner design reduces NOx emissions by up to 33%, and environmental-friendly insulation and factory-installed heat trap nipples reduce heat loss for maximum energy savings.

      This Proline® XE water heater features State’s advanced tank protection, including a stainless steel CoreGard™ anode rod, Blue Diamond® glass lining, and DynaClean™ automatic sediment-cleaning—designed to help protect the tank from the corrosive effects of water and extend the life of the water heater, which is backed by a 6-year limited tank and parts warranty.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Solid Step Up from a Basic Water Heater I had this installed by my plumber and am quite happy with the unit. Our previous unit was working great, but was 14 years old and I didn't want to push it and risk a problem. I did SO much research on high-efficiency, heat pump, condensing, tankless electric, tankless gas, and every time came back to a standard atmospheric vent 50 gallon tank. My first priority was to have high-efficiency to reduce my impact (this unit has an EF(energy factor) of 0.67), and my second priority was a reasonable cost. This unit cost me $1725 installed. It was $525 more expensive than the GS6-50-BRT that my plumber was going to install. While that is a well-reviewed unit, it is not Energy Star, and will cost about $40 more per year to operate. That means I will break even in 13 years, which I plan this unit to last for. I spoke with an online retailer about the price difference and they had it listed for $363 more, so maybe you can negotiate a better deal than my plumber did with his supplier. I feel that if I can break even over the life of the water heater and have less of an environmental impact, that is the right thing to do. The heat pump and condensing water heaters seemed like the most environmentally friendly option, but they end up with problems and some require regular maintenance. Plus the units alone are anywhere from $1500-$2500+. When this technology comes around this will be the way to go. Tankless seems over-rated, even though lots of friends of mine who have them really like them. An electric model would have used 3 40-amp circuits, which was out of the question. Gas models perform better anyway, but the cost of the unit alone plus the additional ventilation plumbing would have been way too expensive, and they require maintenance. It seems that these other types had too many bells and whistles for something to go wrong. And, in my gut I felt it would be smart to have 50 gallons of water should I need it in an emergency. The coolest thing about the GS6-50-YBFT is that it has a control mechanism at the top that will turn to close the flue to keep the heat in, and open up when it needs to vent.
